Mint oil has a number of uses––it can be used to add a minty flavor to drinks, add mint flavor to food such as chocolates and icing and used in a number of natural applications from deterring ants to clearing up chest congestion. Making your own takes a few weeks, but is cheap and easy to do. Other herbs can be tried also.

Objective

  • To learn different method of extraction.
  • To learn how to extract essential oil from plants.
  • To understand the role of essential oil in aromatherapy.
  • To understand the different application of essential oil from different plants.

Course Outline

  • Select liquid for extraction
  • Chop or bruise the mint leaves
  • Pack the leaves into jar
  • Strain the liquid into a brown glass container
  • Use of rotary evaporator to extract the essential oil
